According to the WeChat official account of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, under the careful arrangements of both parties in accordance with the China-U.S. International Cooperation Agreement for Panda Conservation, giant pandas “Lun Lun” and “Yang Yang,” along with their twin cubs “Ya Lun” and “Xi Lun,” safely arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on October 13 at 7:13 PM Beijing time, traveling by a chartered flight from the Atlanta Zoo in the United States.
After being examined by accompanying veterinarians, the health status of all four giant pandas was confirmed to be good. Accompanied by a team of veterinarians and animal care experts, they have been successfully transported to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where they will undergo a quarantine period of at least one month (How Do Overseas Giant Pandas Return to China?).

According to the cooperation agreement, giant pandas “Lun Lun” and “Yang Yang” began their residence at the Atlanta Zoo in the United States in 1999, where they received attentive care and healthy feeding from the zoo staff. They have successfully raised five litters of seven cubs, achieving outstanding results in international breeding cooperation for giant pandas between China and Europe and the United States.
Through the international cooperation project for giant pandas, both parties have engaged in various collaborations, including panda breeding, behavioral training, preventive veterinary medicine, and conservation education. This has led to active academic exchanges and fruitful results, playing a significant role in enhancing the technical level of panda conservation research and promoting the development of panda conservation efforts, while also contributing positively to mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and the United States.
